About
Hola, chiquitas and gringos. I am a freelance writer that just happens to do my own blog on the side.
I was born in Ottawa and moved to Toronto for school way back in the day. I then moved to Hamilton where I lived for the last 10+ years - it was a lot cheaper than Toronto! We have just gotten out of the Big Smoke and moved up to the country. There is now a creek outside of my bedroom window rather than a crack whore convention. Nice change.
From a very early age I was told that I had excellent writing skills and was encouraged to follow that path throughout my teenage years. I joined the Canadian Authors Association when I was 16 to meet other writers and find out what it meant to be a writer. I was accepted into a very competitive program (that sadly no longer exists) at York University for Creative Writing. I soon found out that being a writer full-time in those days meant either being broke or being supported by someone else, so I turned my attentions away from my gift to make money.
I worked at a small company selling a niche product when I was right out of school. Even though it was only 1996 and a lot of companies weren’t on the web yet, I heard an ever louder call from our customers for us to get a website. As webmasters were few and far between in those days, I taught myself and launched the company’s first website. I’ll post a screenshot of it someday so that all may cower in fear and loathing.
I have since been able to marry the two things that I love in this blog, web design and writing. I don’t plan to focus this blog on any particular topic (as I should for SEO, I know, but I’m treating it as an online diary). My wonderful guy had a fight with cancer that he chronicled rather well on his old blog, so I’ll be reposting some of his articles here to save separate hosting fees and increase traffic to the one site.
