Rethinking, Rehoping, Resetting

I left the last article up so that it would be up until election day, at the risk of stagnation of my blog.  Now I am wondering if I want to get so involved in the political process anymore.  While my preference would be to out the anti-women activities and lack of political activity of our current incumbent, I have to honestly wonder if having CSIS and other assorted agencies on my ass makes it worth it.

While I will probably vote NDP until the day I die, the sheer futility of doing so in my riding is numbing.  The majority of people in my riding would rather have a women’s right to choose wiped out and the 1950’s brought back in full force.  This is sad because I love living in the country, but I am going to have to accept that most people who live in the country just don’t think the same way I do.  This just means avoiding conversation with the neighbours (except the ones I like) as much as possible.

Will I vote Liberal if Trudeau Jr. comes on board?  That depends how much of the NDP platform he adopts.  I was impressed by his humanitarian work with Kadhr and have to say that he does stand up on his own and has probably come out of Daddy’s shadow somewhat.  As of right now though, Jack Layton is a better choice for leader.

The Best of the “David Sweet Watch” Blog - A Vote for Sweet is a Vote for Pro-Life!

Given the apparent decommissioning of the David Sweet Watch Blog at http://davidsweetwatch.blogspot.com, I have decided to post the best excerpts in a small article here.  While I would repost the entire blog, I don’t want to get slammed for duplicate content and so will just post links.  I think it is important to post this content and use proper social media marketing to “get the message out” in advance of our October 14th election.  I encourage everyone to check out the David Sweet Watch blog, regardless of your voting inclinations, in advance of the October 14th election.

McMaster Students - your vote is key to ousting David Sweet.  If you don’t vote, chances are very good that he will get back in.  If you can vote, vote.  If you aren’t sure, get in touch with Elections Canada or your favorite political party for direction - heck, I’ll even drive you to the poll if you need it and you contact me.  We have two cars and we aren’t afraid to use them.

Since the contact e-mail no longer works for Sweet Watch, I encourage any of the original individuals who maintained it to get in touch with me and give me the admin info so that I may take up the torch for them.  If I don’t hear from them in a couple of weeks I will be starting my own after the election - I’m hoping it isn’t necessary but we will see on October 14th.

A brief rundown on David Sweet - he is the incumbent MP for the riding of Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale.  He is also unfortunately my MP; I say unfortunately given the following data:

1.  David Sweet led a national religious think tank group that is pro-life.

The Work Research Foundation was (and still is) a right-wing pro-life group that aims to get people of an evangelical bent into power.

Very important - read this link.

As far as I am concerned, a pro-life MP who presumes to speak for what I am allowed to do with my body does not belong in government.  He certainly shouldn’t be my MP, since this runs so counter to my beliefs that I get angry just thinking about it.

2.  David Sweet then led a Religious Cult called the Promise Keepers.

The Promise Keepers are a cult by every definition of the word.  They are racist, homophobic, and misogynist in their beliefs.  They basically preach hate, not love.  That isn’t a Christian; that is a Nazi.  Good to see the Heritage Front faith is still alive and well with my locally elected MP in the Conservative party.  Yes, that was sarcasm.  Last time I checked, we live in Canada, not somewhere where we should be goosestepping every time our leader asks us to.

Here’s hoping that they don’t allow David Sweet in the same room as Obama if both of them are elected this fall - references to Uncle Tom just may shame our nation.

The Promise Keeper’s Ugly Racist Side

3.  David Sweet Deliberately Tries to Hide These Past Affiliations on His Biography.

More disturbing than the fact that Sweet has had these past affiliations is possibly the fact that he has tried to hide both the PK’s and the WRF on his bio page by glossing over them as “national organizations”.  My opinion on this is that he is trying to garner the orthodox Dutch Reform Christian vote in Flamborough.  While the more orthodox members of that group may lean with the PK principles, the less orthodox and the more progressive would probably not dig the Promise Keepers so much.  His generic presentation of himself as “a Christian voice” would appeal to most voters who vote with their pulpits, thus the whitewashing of his past.

Those of you who fit into this category are probably thinking “well, I still don’t want to vote Liberal or NDP”.  That’s fine.  Vote Green, vote anything but Sweet.  A vote for him is a vote for bigotry, hate-mongering, misogynism, and the hidden agenda of wanting to take away your right to say what you can and can’t do in the event that an abortion is an issue in your life.

Update

4.  Check Out David Sweet’s Performance On Omar Kadhr

Despite the protests of the Canadian people and Amnesty International, David Sweet was the right-wing gavel that the Conservatives sent to help bring the hammer down on Kadhr, who is still in Gitmo thanks to Harper’s Conservatives.  Due process in a Canadian or world court is what Kadhr deserves as a human being.

100 Bucks Says that David Sweet Hangs with this guy in Ottawa…

An independent federal candidate for MP called for gays to be “executed”… can we eject people from Parliament for hate speech?  We really should be able too…

Check out the story, which weirdly hasn’t yet appeared on CBC.ca.

Update:  It was pointed out to me that this guy was a candidate, not an MP.  I made the correction.  I am also aware that David Sweet has a wife and children - that really doesn’t enter into it.  He’s a racist, woman-hating bigot as a member of the Promise Keepers, regardless of his reproductive capabilities.  I still think he’d hang with this guy since they very likely share some views.
